Saturation and geometric scaling in DIS at small x

چکیده

We present various aspects of the saturation model which provides good description of inclusive and diffractive DIS at small x. The model uses parton saturation ideas to take into account unitarity requirements. A new scaling predicted by the model in the small x domain is successfully confronted with the data.

Geometric Scaling and QCD Dynamics in DIS

DIS data from HERA show a striking regularity as σγ p is a function of the ratio τ = Q/Qs(x) only. The scaling function shows a break at τ ≈ 1, which has been taken as an indication for saturation. However, besides saturation also the transition between dominance of k⊥-ordered (DGLAP) and k⊥-non-ordered (BFKL) evolution contributes to a break around this value of τ , as well as the suppression ...

Geometric scaling for the total γ∗p cross section in the low x region

We observe that the saturation model of deep inelastic scattering, which successfully describes inclusive and diffractive data at small x, predicts a geometric scaling of the total γ∗p cross section in the region of small Bjorken variable x. The geometric scaling in this case means that the cross section is a function of only one dimensionless variable τ = Q2R2 0(x), where the function R0(x) (c...

Scaling Phenomena from Non-Linear Evolution in High Energy DIS

The numerical solutions of the non-linear evolution equation are shown to display the “geometric” scaling recently discovered in the experimental data. The phenomena hold both for proton and nucleus targets for all x below 10−2 and 0.25GeV2 ≤ Q2 ≤ 2.5 × 103 GeV2. The scaling is practically exact (few percent error) in the saturation region. In addition, an approximate scaling is found in the va...

Enhancement and Suppression of the Neutrino-Nucleon Total Cross Section at Ultra-High Energies

We argue that high gluon density effects at small x are important for calculation of ultra-high energy neutrino nucleon cross sections due to the phenomenon of geometric scaling. We calculate the cross section for ν N → μX, including high gluon density effects, using the all twist formalism of McLerran and Venugopalan and show that it can be related to the dipole nucleon cross section measured ...

Geometric scaling is a novel scaling phenomenon observed in deep inelastic scattering at small x: the total γ * p cross section depends upon the two kinematical variables Q 2 and x only via their combination ξ ≡ Q 2 R 2 0 (x), with R 2 0 (x) ∝ x λ. At sufficiently low Q 2 , below the saturation scale Q 2 s (x) (∼ a few GeV 2), this phenomenon finds a natural explanation as a property of the Col...
